As expected alongside MIUI 7, Xiaomi today also unveiled the Redmi Note 2 at its ongoing event in China. The Redmi Note 2 Prime, on the other hand, is priced at RMB 999 (Rs 10,100 approximately).
The Redmi Note 2’s specifications and features are in line with earlier leaks. It flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, and Xiaomi claims that for nighttime reading, its minimum brightness has been reduced nearly 10-times. Under the hood is a 2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Also on offer is 16GB internal storage.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and offers 32GB internal storage.
On the photography front, the phablet features a 13-megapixel Samsung/OV rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5-element lens. It also features Phase Detection autofocus feature, which the company claims helps the camera focus in 0.1 seconds. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel OmniVision selfie camera with Beautify mode.
The phablet also features 3,060mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and on the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7 out-of-the-box.
While the Redmi Note 2 sticks to a 5.5-inch display like the Redmi Note 4G, it features dimensions of 152x76x8.25mm. This makes it slimmer and more compact than its predecessor, which featured dimensions of 154×78.7×9.45mm. At 160 grams, it also weighs less than its predecessor.
The phablets will be available in five color variants including white, black, pink, brown, and light blue.
